FROM FORMULA VAU TO FORMULA 1
FROM FORMULA VAU TO FORMULA 1

Many former Formula 1 drivers, Formula 1 world champions and racing greats took this guiding principle to heart.

In Austria, these included Dr. Helmut Marko, Helmuth Koinigg, Jo Gartner, Harald Ertl and the world champions Jochen Rindt and Niki Lauda. Not to forget the Finn with Austrian connections, "Keke" Rosberg, who took victory after victory for the ingenious Formula Vau constructor of the Kaimann cars, "Master" Kurt Bergmann. In the early years of Formula Vau, Dieter Quester with the Kaimann Formula Vau was also a guarantor for the best results. The success story of the Austrians was concluded with Walter Lechner as the last Formula SuperV European Champion in 1984. At that time Formula Vau was faster than Formula 3.

International names like Jean Pierre Beltoise, Jacky Ickx, Bruce McLaren, Mario Andretti, Gijs van Lennep, Jochen Maas, Manfred Schurti, Freddy Kottulinsky, John Nielson, Bill Scott and many others earned their spurs in the early days of their careers with Formula Vau, as did the Dutchman Arie Luyendyk as a later Indianapolis winner.

The Formula Vau racing series with its legendary race cars will be on display at the Austrian Historic at the Red Bull Ring from June 10 - 12, 2022!
