Press release | 11.06.2022
A start worth seeing: The winning Lotus F1 podium of the Monaco Historique Grand Prix 2022 will start today and tomorrow Sunday at the Austrian Historic at the Red Bull Ring; the pre-66 Grand Prix Cars series will also bring motorsport rarities from the pre-1966 era to Styria on Father's Day.
Historic cars in summery temperatures at the start of the Austrian Historic at the Red Bull Ring: Shelby American Cobra Daytona, Tyrrell P-34, BRM P261, Lotus 87B and numerous other spectacular cars will bring motorsport nostalgia to the Mur valley at the start of the Austrian Historic on Saturday. The continuation on Father's Day - tickets are available on site at the box office - again promises historic racing action.
FROM MONACO TO SPIELBERG
A few weeks ago, three historic Lotus Formula 1 racing cars mixed it up at the Monaco Historique Grand Prix, securing first to third place in the 3-liter Grand Prix cars 1981-85 class in the principality. All three bolides (Lotus 87B, Lotus 92 and Lotus 88B) of the former British F1 racing team can also be seen in racing action at the premiere of the Austrian Historic at the Red Bull Ring: "Of course, we are extremely pleased about this and it shows the importance the Austrian Historic already has in the historic motorsport scene at its premiere," explains Christoph Gerlach from organizer BG Sportpromotion.
RARITIES IN RACING
Genuine rarities of the automobile world championship from the era before 1966 are also in racing action at the Red Bull Ring: "Massive F1 racing history, in every single bolide," is how organizer Thomas Matzelberger describes the historical series pre-66 Grand Prix Cars, which brings genuine motorsport classics to the starting line as part of the Austrian Historic: a bolide from the British racing car manufacturer Cooper, for example, with which Jack Brabham was able to win the automobile world championship - the predecessor of the Formula 1 world championship - in 1959. With the BRM P261, one of the rarest race cars in motorsport history will start at the Red Bull Ring: the British racing team sent none other than Formula 1 icon Graham Hill out onto the track in this car in 1964. "All these racing cars steeped in history are in full racing mode, the spectators at the Red Bull Ring will experience this live!", explains Matzelberger.
